# Learning Tracker: Reading a Workshop Revenue Table

**Goal:** calculate revenue from a simple table, and explain why revenue is not profit.

**Rule:** a skill is marked **Demonstrated** only after you get it right yourself on numbers you haven't seen worked through. Reading an explanation does not count. A skill is only fully secure once you also get it right on a later day (**retention check**).

## Plan

| Session | Time | Focus | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 (2026-09-28) | 15 min | Diagnostic question, a visual example, then you try new numbers | **Done** |
| Day 2 | 10 min | Retention check on new numbers, plus total revenue across several classes | **Pending** |

## Skills

| Skill | Day 1 | Day 2 retention check | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Say what "revenue" means in your own words | **Demonstrated** | Pending | Diagnostic: "the money paid by attendees before expenses." Practice: "money from sales before costs." |
| Read price, attendees and costs from a table | **Demonstrated** | Pending | Correctly used all values for Classes C and D from the table. |
| Calculate revenue for one class | **Demonstrated** (3 of 3 correct) | Pending | 8 × 45 = 360; 12 × 45 = 540 (C); 5 × 45 = 225 (D). |
| Calculate profit when costs are given | **Demonstrated** (2 of 2 correct) | Pending | C: 540 - 230 = 310. D: 225 - 260 = -35, including the negative result. |
| Explain why revenue is not profit | **Demonstrated** | Pending | "Revenue is money from sales before costs; profit subtracts the costs." Also noticed that D "loses money despite receiving revenue." |
| Calculate total revenue across several classes | Not yet checked | Pending | Not practiced yet. |

## Session log

### Day 1 (2026-09-28)

**Diagnostic**
- **Answer:** 8 × 45 = 360. Revenue is "the money paid by attendees before expenses." Profit is also 360.
- **Right:** the calculation, and a strong definition of revenue.
- **Misconception:** profit = revenue. It left out costs.

**Taught**
- A two-class table with revenue, costs and profit (Class A: profit $250; Class B: profit -$20).

**Practice (new numbers, no answer shown first)**
- Class C: 12 × 45 = 540 revenue; 540 - 230 = 310 profit. **Correct.**
- Class D: 5 × 45 = 225 revenue; 225 - 260 = -35 profit. **Correct.** The learner noted it "loses money despite receiving revenue."
- Explanation: "Revenue is money from sales before costs; profit subtracts the costs." **Correct.**
- **Misconception from the diagnostic: corrected on Day 1.** Confirm it on Day 2.

### Day 2

- Not started. The retention check is pending.

## Still to practice

- **Day 2 retention check:** revenue, profit and the one-sentence explanation on fresh numbers, without looking back at Day 1.
- **New skill:** total revenue across several classes, where you add up each class's revenue.
- **Watch for:** the old misconception coming back, such as calling money coming in "profit."
